ReplyDeleteThis painting has always been one of my favorites from it's era. Before this class, I would never be able to describe the movement of the work. I would see it as simply two figures kissing. Now I am able to describe how my eyes move the length of the couples bodies and to the background of the painting--the real movement of this piece.

ReplyDeleteHere is a painting of a landscape of fields of farms and orchards. Without taking this class, I would have simply admired the pumpkins of the painting and then moved on. But it is important to noticed the movement of the rolling hills and they wait it moves your eyes all around the painting, taking you on a journey through not just the pumpkins in the front, but the sunflowers, the farms, the orchards, and all the way back toward the horizon. This way of viewing it has helped me to appreciate the work of art and enjoy it more then I would have before this class.

ReplyDeleteWhen you click to go on this link, it takes you to a website with many different cartoon comic illustrations, most of them dealing with the evolution of man. I feel that these sardonic clips are forms of art as they are illustrations that express a feeling or emotion and can be enjoyed by its audience. This class has taught me to have an open-mind when looking at art and be able to not just understand its description and what it looks like, but to also think about the interpretation of the piece and how your judgement plays into that.

ReplyDeleteThis is a painting done by Warington Colescott, and it shows a series of weird looking animals and deformed creatures. Before this class, I would have just looked at the picture and thought it was different, but kinda cool. Now when i look at a painting, or piece of art, I spend a little more time thinking about what the artist was probably thinking and I begin to notice more and more about the painting. My interpretations of artwork has definitely become more intelligent now.

ReplyDeleteThis picture created by: exo20811 on hubpages.com, is one that takes me to the promise of the soon to come future. It keeps me hopeful and focused on my ultimate goal of making it to heaven, and making sure that I am doing my best possible, to live the best life that I can. As far as the course, this picture reminds me of the paintings of Sandlin from chapter 6. Very realistic-looking and centered-focused on the middle portrait. I hope you enjoy!

ReplyDeleteThis is a painting created by the famous Andy Warhol. I personally love his art so was excited to pick a piece by him. This piece of art is called "Female Costumed Full Figure" and is so colorful that it makes me eyes instantly attracted to it and brightens my day just by looking at the radiant reds, yellows, pinks, and blues. This painting relates to class because we discussed Andy Warhol in Chapter 3, when we discussed pop art. I would love to visit an Andy Warhol Museum someday!

For all of my papers in Art Ed I picked Monet paintings to talk about and the link below is my favorite. I have always liked his work, but now I know the right words to use when I talk about it and how to describe it. I love the style he uses and I am always drawn to his work because of its softness and color. We didn't talk about Monet in class because he was way to early, but I still thought it was relevant.

ReplyDeleteThe picture I posted was a piece from Banksy. He is a well known street artist who also has a concealed identity. If you google him you will see a lot of his street art, which is pretty cool. The one I posted is a funny picture of Pulp Fiction because he switched out the guns with bananas.
This relates to our class because one were watching Pulp Fiction right now and we have also discussed a little about street art and tagging.

ReplyDeleteI posted this video of Kseniya Simonava doing sand art with a light board and a fistful of sand. In this piece she shows how a girl ages from a young girl on the beach to an adult in an office space. This piece means to me that time is short and that we grow faster than a blink of an eye. It is unbelievable what she can do and in just the creating of the art she shows me that we all have a talent that we may discover in time. This piece relates to the class because she intentionally created something that made me think and that is what my definition of art has come to mean after taking this class.

ReplyDeleteIn class, we discussed the art form of graffiti; I personally find graffiti to be an excellent form of expression. I do agree with those that see some graffiti as vandalism but generally, I find is to be inspiring in some ways. The link above is of a picture of graffiti that I find to be an inspirational piece. Also, I love seeing the chalked sidewalks here at OSU, I find it to be a fun way of expression for students.

ReplyDeleteArt Education 160 is not my first art class, throughout elementrary school I took an art class every year. From those years, my favorite famous painting was the infamous "Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh. I have always found this painting to be extremely beautiful. But since taking Art Education, I can appreciate the painting for more than it's physical beauty. I can contemplate and interpret the painting for what it really is; thanks to all that I have learned in this course.

ReplyDeleteAbove is a link to a painting by Jackson Pollock. Pollock was discussed in class as a spearhead of the abstract expressionism movement. I like the painting because while in high school I had to do a biographical project about Pollock so I feel that I know more about him than other painters. The painting is sporadic and expressive and appears random yet methodical.

ReplyDeleteThis piece of art is of a pail on the beach. I like it because from a far it almost looks like a photograph but the artists technique up close looks nothing like a photo it is very systematic. Art that looks like something I could create is always appealing to me because it looks so easy yet so much technique goes into it. It relates to class because I see it as fitting my definition of art that I created after taking this class.

ReplyDeleteThis piece above caught my eye when I first looked at. The way the tracks go from right side up to upside down amazes me. I like this picture because I have never seen anything like this before, its original and fresh. I have never taken an art class before in college and I wouldn’t have much to say about this picture but now since I have taken Art 160 I have a lot to say about this picture; from the movement of the picture to every detail. I’m glad I took this class because I have learned so much about different types of art and the different time periods. I have a new opinion of art and I am able to see more than just a picture hung on a wall, I am able to see the story behind the art.

ReplyDeleteThis picture if of a Lamborghini and I picked it because it has always been my dream car. What it means to me is freedom and success, a car is the ultimate symbol of freedom and this one in particular is truly a piece of art with all the custom work and the hefty price tag. It relates to the class because it is art as defined by me after taking this class, it is work that is created purposely and makes people think about the attention to detail and design.

ReplyDeleteAbove I have posted a link that should take you to a picture of one of the graffiti pieces of the mysterious Banksy. I have enjoyed his work for a few years now and find it extremely fascinating that no one has been able to catch him in the act, nor do we know what he looks like, yet he is so famous! I believe that he is a true artist, his work is beautiful. I posted the picture above because we were asked if we thought graffiti was an art form in class and I think this photo proves that yes, it can be. It is of a a maid who seems to be lifting up the wall (an illusion) and sweeping dirt underneath it. It's quite comical and extremely detailed and wonderful. I wish we would have had time to look at more of his work in class!

ReplyDeleteI first saw this painting when my little sister brought it home after she replicated the painting in one of her art classes. I remember asking her why she painted such a scary picture and she just laughed. After taking this art class I learned that this is a famous portrait by Edvard Munch. This title of this painting is called “The Scream”. Edvard created this picture with tempera and pastel colors on cardboard. At first I had this picture because I thought is was dark and disturbing but after taking a second look at it I find it interesting and intriguing. I like the fact that it came from neo-expressionism time because artists were not afraid to test the commercialized boundaries of visual and material production. It’s a very different piece that makes you really wonder what Edvard was thinking when he painted this picture.

ReplyDeleteI’ve always been intrigued by this painting by Salvador Dali because I like the centrality of the bright light surrounded by the darker colors that make it look you’re looking down into the figures in the sky. I feel inspired because the man in the center falling at the brightest point leads me to think hopeful thoughts about my reality. This is a good example of movement in a painting because my eye is drawn by the light and the man falling to the center of the image and then out across each ray of light and throughout each individual figure. Dali used one-point perspective to create an illusion of depth in his painting.

ReplyDeleteI like this painting by Mark Rothko because the colors remind me of being at the beach in perfect weather. The colors remind me of a cool day near the water as it is getting darker after sunset or really early in the morning. It’s very meaningful to me because it reminds me of going to the beach each spring with my best friends in high school. It would always still be a little but cold but it always seemed perfect! I’m glad we learned about colorfield paintings like this in class. I really understand how this type of art motivates contemplation and meditation. It is more about the viewers meditation than the artist, which differs from artists like Pollock whose works focused on the action of the artist. Here is another link that shows people meditating over some of Rothko’s other works. http://irene-turner.com/wp-content/uploads/rothko.jpg

ReplyDeleteI was looking around for paintings to share when I came across a few from Salvador Dali. I have always enjoyed his works and I realized that I had never seen this one before. I liked it because it, with a lot of other Dali paintings, moves. I noticed the horses and elephants and the things riding on top of them. I then look to where they are going. They appear to be headed towards a man. This is what I have taken from this class. I have learned to analyze pieces in a way that I never saw before. I like this piece because it makes one think. This, in my opinion, is what art is.

ReplyDeleteI have a large print of this painting hung in my bedroom at home. The print was a birthday gift I got a few years ago. My cousin had a Mark Rothko print hanging in her apartment and I always liked it, even though I didn't know much about art or art history, I liked the impact the image made on its surroundings. My cousin picked this one out for me. I really like it because the yellow really makes my room bright and makes me feel happy. It was really interesting to learn that artists like Rothko created pieces that were supposed to bring about "religious experiences." That the artwork is meant to affect a person's psyche, even allow them to meditate. It's interesting that his work had that effect on me without having any formal art education.

This photography here really caught my attention. I found it on photobucket.com and realized how there are so many different art forms. This art form I am not to familuar with but it is called,Light Graffiti.

ReplyDeleteThis painting is very creative. Anything that can be broken up into many pieces yet still form a certain shape has always been my favorite type of art. It really takes a true artist to do something like this.

ReplyDeleteThis picture is just like the graffiti we learned about in class. Graffiti is so cool to me and so expressive. Being able to right on buildings and make it big and clear for the whole world to see is really something cool.

ReplyDeleteThis painting is called the "Dollar Sign" and was painted by Andy Warhol in 1981. Because of this class, I can look at this painting and see more than just a dollar sign; I look at the movement of the painting more than anything and try to find things that are not as obvious at first glance to analyze the meaning of the painting and why the artist painted it.
